Why you can’t get any work done today

The company announced on Tuesday morning that a recent change was causing issues and that it was working to fix them, but its first attempt was unsuccessful and the company is now “rerouting traffic to alternate infrastructure”.

We’re rerouting traffic to alternate infrastructure to improve the user experience while we continue to investigate the issue. Please visit https://t.co/AEUj8uAGXl for additional information.— Microsoft 365 Status (@MSFT365Status) September 28, 2020

The company has now said the mitigation strategy was successfully “allowing users to sign into the previously impacted services”.

“Our internal monitoring has validated this recovery and we have received positive confirmation from customer reports.

“We’ll continue to monitor the service and provide updates on full recovery to remaining impacted users,” Microsoft said on its status website.

On complaint aggregator DownDetector, reported issues with Microsoft services including Office 365 (which includes Word, Excel and other vital software that is now sold on a subscription you need to login to access rather than running offline on your computer), Azure cloud services and Outlook email services began surging from around 7am (AEST), with thousands of reports flooding in.

Microsoft identified a problem with authentication requests as the cause of the issue, meaning users were unable to login to access the services they pay for.

The issue is reportedly not affecting customers who are already logged in, but if you try and start a new session you could face struggles logging in.

Last week Google faced a similar issue with its services too.
